It is very common to hear or read nowadays that there has been a fatal shooting here or suicide there. These forms of human loss of life are on the rise especially in developed countries. Suicides have gone beyond taking away individual life to the level of involving members of family or friends.

Why the rise in suicide and murder?

The simple reason for the rise in suicide and murder is societal pressure. People who take the decision to commit suicide or murder advance several justifications that are all related to societal pressure. These include separation from spouse, rejection by peers, injustice, neglect, loss of job and property, fear of persecution or sentence and many more. For example, while in the course of separation in a marriage, some partners decide to take away the life of their partners before taking theirs while in other cases some go after those they consider responsible for their plight or simply take it out on the public. This is in fact very sad and raises the level of fear and insecurity in society. In some countries even, people discuss their plans to commit suicide and agree on when to do that as a group. So, why do we get to the point where we become so disappointed with what we once loved and take the decision to commit murder or suicide?

Our Lives

As humans living in an increasingly difficult and complex world, it is evident that we all suffer at some point from some form of abuse, rejection, injustice and loss. Those who think of committing suicide or murder should ask themselves if the reasons stated above are sufficient for them to resort to taking away life or lives. Commonly, those who commit suicide or murder can distinguish right from wrong and therefore indulge in actions they have at least some knowledge of. It is clear that certain levels disappointment are associated with depression that clouds the mind and our reasoning. However, it is very important to remember that the same life we plan to take away is one that we had once loved and cherished. Therefore, no matter what we experience during our lifetime, there is no justification for these acts. This is because just life itself is more precious that everything or reason that we advance to commit suicide or murder. In fact, if we are not alive, we cannot enjoy the things that commonly push people to commit suicide or murder. Those who plan to commit murder or suicide should remind themselves of times when they were happy and sought such a state again without losing hope. Life is very precious and we should always be grateful to be part of it. Think about many who possess all what you desire but who are lying ill and unable to enjoy them. There is every reason to be happy when you are alive especially when you are in good health. Everything else is secondary and if one thing makes us unhappy, we should look for alternatives to dedicate our attention or simply stay away from from things or those who make us unhappy.

Some advice

1. Consider the gift of life to always be as precious as during a time when you were happy and keep it throughout your lifetime.

2. Do not expect any reward for your positive or good actions towards others.

3. Do not build your life around others or depend on others to live. There is enough for everybody even though some have amassed so much for themselves while many have access to very little.

4. Learn to change activities and interest so that you may easily adapt when an activity or interest fails you or becomes unavailable.

5. Do not pass judgment and sentence yourself or others but rather allow nature to take care of this.

6. Always remember that an opportunity missed today may simply be because of a better opportunity to come tomorrow

7. Always talk to someone if you have a problem that keeps dragging you down. Even if you have no friends, there are various help lines with government employees who can listen to you so you do not fall into depression

8. Respect your life and that of others. Be an apostle of life and not of death

9. Indulge in physical exercises that relax the body and the mind

10. Go out and meet with other people, have fun, you are not alone, we all have problems and always will, but we must surmount these and enjoy life during our lifetime
